The 18th and 19th century English tradition of dog paintings, horse paintings and hunting scenes, as well as old master portraits of saints, mystics, aristrocracy, and other illustrious personages are the references for Pet Portraits, informed by a contemporary sensibility. The portraits are by commission and begin with a photo session of the pet. The artist may travel long distances to spend time with the subject, taking many roles of film and getting to know the personality of the animal and the particular nature of the relationship between pet and owner.
